08/01/08 Whatever is going on in Roach's demented mind, we love it! On the cover of the current issue is Roach himself. He, along with a few friends, ventured back to one of his favorite stomping grounds, Tavarua. We got all the photos and a briefing from Roach and put it all in the current ish. Plus, we got word that he and Manny hooked up some sick photos in the barrels of Cabo during Cabo Freak Fest. Manny was quoted as saying, "I've haven't seen Roach this pumped on bodyboarding since the late nineties!" So obviously, we're stoked to have him pumped and back in the scene too! 2/22/08 The IBA/USBA Pipeline Pro presented by Body Glove Bodyboards, NMD, and Pride Bodyboards was another epic event. The conditions were good for most of the rounds, with some onshore winds picking up in the afternoon. That did not stop the action! Big back flip by Ben Player in the quarterfinals saw him advance, only to get eliminated in the semi's. Hugo Pinheiro from Portugal pulled a sick ARS in the sloppy conditions to advance also. But in the end it was Paulo Barcelos from Brazil who took the win. Followed by Jeff Hubbard from Hawaii, Uri Valadao from Brazil took 3rd place and Hugo Pinheiro from Portugal came in 4th. Good job boys, our sport was represented well!

2/13/08 The pipeline contest window will begin in a couple days so get ready to see some of the best Bodyboarders in the world throwdown against each other. Good luck to all the competitors, enjoy surfing pipe with only a few guys out......INSANE!!

Mag's coming. And it's going to be one of our best! Sick FREE calendar will be just one thing that's worth the wait.

12/06/07
Hope everybody is stoked on the West Coast. Mother Nature delivered an epic 5-7 foot swell. Most of the reefs were firing and beach breaks were thumping. Some of our mag photogs were out and collecting the goods for future issues.

Crysis staff is working on finishing the next issue. Expect sick features and departments. We know you're salivating and we're going to deliver.

Spring Break CABO. Check out FFAT's new trip. www.FFAT.biz

11/16/07
Tomorrow is the first stop of the BIA Tour. Seaside Reef is spot. You'll probably see an influx of pros at this event for two reasons: 1. The waves are going to be good and 2. It's the backyard for many pros like Paul Roach, the Meyers and other SD locals. So don't miss that!

The Rosarito Pro was a success. The event could've had more US competitors but for the first annual Pro/Am event at Rosarito, it was sick. The Hubbard brothers dominated and it was Taylor Paige and Kira Llewellyn that took the Am and Pro Female, respectively.

Coming in early Decmember is our 13th issue. We have a sick mag filled with insane pix and content. Chris Won and Kyle Maligro tell us about coming full circle. Manny Vargas' FFAT trips hit the pages and we fill the rest of the mag with cool departments. Stay tuned for that!

11/9/07
The USBA at Imperial beach , CA saw 3-4 foot sets coming through with slight offshore winds early.

The most anticipated event in the USBA is the Sling for Bling where Spencer Skipper had tow partner Nelz putting him perfectly into nice clean sections and Skipper hitting the lip and launching sic ARS’s and huge sprays throwing gallons of water into the air for the win.

Kira Lewellyn came all the way from “down under” to compete and showcased her ARS on Cali waves winning the Women’s Pro Division and impressing all with her power and combinations on the waves. Kira is a class act all around and shooting for a world title but was pushed hard by Monica De La More who always rides strong.

The Hubbards switched roles with Jeff moving into the DK Pro Final and David making it into the Men’s Pro Final. But both were beaten…. as Oceanside’s Wally Sani had something to say about it in the DK Pro, taking the win with strong water moving cracks and aggressive floaters with Jeff taking 2nd. In the Men’s Pro Final Sasha Spector told me he was packing up to go home after his semi-final, but the South African made it through to the Men’s Pro Final and treated the crowd with the cleanest launches and landings for the winner scores from the judges barely beating out always strong Spencer Skipper who took 2nd place.

The amateurs continue to show their skills as Hawaiian Ries Yonehiro beating out local standout Taylor Page, who took 2nd place.

Next stop for the USBA is Rosarito , Mexico November 9, 2007 .

9/24/07
Finally! It's been a hectic summer for all of us here at Crysis Mag but we did it! The new issue it out! GT's air reverse photo graces the cover of issue 12. The new ish is loaded with new departments which include everything from the All Star Jam to contest scenes from around the glabe. Plus, the long over due interviews of GT, Brett Roldan and frenchy Amaruy Laverne are in our main features. If that isn't enough, we show our love for the crew on the Right Side and in Cali. We are super stoked to have Manny V on board to assist with the mag and he's down with the Crysis cause. Go to our store or any core bodyboard shop and get your magazine or subscription today!

CrysisMagazine.com is undergoing a facelift behind the scenes. So keep your pupils locked here during the first week of October.

Welcome to 2007!
For those who don't know here is a brief view into the lifespan of Crysis Bodyboard Magazine. Crysis Bodyboard Magazine was first introduced in September of 2002, as an "undersized" magazine which was free to the consumer. Crysis Bodyboard Magazine was inspired by a need to show the "real" side of the sport, featuring excellent imagery, and outstanding editorial on all the top professionals in the industry. Through tremendous support from our advertisers, readers, photographers, staff, and numerous others, Crysis Bodyboard Magazine has grown into an "over-sized" magazine which features 100# gloss paper stock THROUGHOUT the publication. Crysis Magazine now retails for $4.99US and sells outstanding. We believe in getting the magazine to the hardcore bodyboarder, therefore distributing the magazine heavily in Bodyboard/Surf shops throughout the United States and a few select International locations. If you would like the magazine in your shop please contact our US Distributor, SFP Distribution, at 760.722.1585, and they will set you up. You can see our major supporters, photographers, staff, etc...listed in our "top friends" on our my space page @ myspace.com/crysismagazine. Unfortunately it limits us to the top 24 friends, and we all know there are WAY MORE people to prop than 24, you know who you are. Our goal is to continue to provide an excellent media forum to display and promote the sport of Bodyboarding, while providing an excellent marketing source for our advertisers. Crysis Bodyboard Magazine is driven by the readers so we urge you to be interactive with us, as your opinion TRULY matters! So leave us a message/comment on my space, or e-mail us @ info@crysismagazine.com and let us know whatcha think. KEEP BODYBOARDING! Thank you,

WHAT’S CRACKIN’ ST. PATTY’S STYLE!!! HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY!! MAY ALL YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE AND ALL YOUR BEER BE GREEN THIS WONDERFUL DAY! OUR DAY IS WONDERFUL CUZ’ WE’VE GOT THE EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH MIKE STEWART WHILE HE WAS HERE IN CALI.......SO HERE IT IS!!

CRYSIS MAGAZINE EXCLUSIVE MIKE STEWART INTERVIEW!!!
CM: What's up Mike? Welcome back to California.
MS: Howzit. Yeah stoked to be back. Whatsup with the water! Cold huh!

CM: What is your favorite part of coming to Cali?
MS: Well, I lived here for a bunch of years back in the day. It's cool to see some people I have not seen in years, and surf some of the old spots.
CM: What is your least favorite part of coming to Cali?
MS: It's painful to see the widespread development and disappearing open space. Cold, huh!
CM: With all the new found reef / beach breaks in the world, which do you feel is the most intimidating, and why?
MS: Pffft, easy. Big west swell (at least 12 foot), maybe 280 degrees,Jack-O-Lantern's Hole is straight up scary. I don't think it has a real name. I have only seen one guy surf it before. His head got opened up like the top of a Jack-O-Lantern, you know where you put the candle in. So that's where the name came from. We couldn't find his body, just theround part off the top of his head. I caught one wave, but it sketched me out. I can't say where it is, but it's less than a 30 minute drive from here (Crysis World Headquarters).
CM: With Clark foam closing it's doors, do you think this will effect the Bodyboarding industry?
MS: It will have some effect, the question is just how much. Even more interesting though is the future of stand up surfing. It has really exploded all over, and that is great. But the explosion eventually maxes out, and starts to recede. That is the nature of cyclical activities. They have an up cycle and a down cycle. Surfing has been in an up cycle for quite a while, while body boarding has been more in a down cycle. But I think being in that down cycle is good for bodyboarding. Really the only people doing it are doing it for the right reasons. They do it for the love and enjoyment of the sport. It's not to be cool or make money. Look at how many people are surfing just to be cool. Even just wearing surf clothes is an attempt by people to be cool. Something stops being cool when everybody is doing it, and surfing may have hit that point. So the real question is: will the over exposure of surfing (stand up) lead to a decline or backlash? Will a backlash lead to more participation in alternatives like body boarding? Ultimately, we cannot, and do not need to rely on the state of stand up surfing to determine our future. Body boarders know who they are and what they do. Personally, I think the sport is coming back to strength in the US. There are signs of growth. Certainly Australia, South Africa, Europe, and some other places are already seeing it.
CM: How do you see Bodyboarding evolving?
MS: Being underground allows the sport to evolve without too much attention from outside the industry. Personally, I think if you showed stand up surfers some cutting edge body board videos or whatever, they would freak. The waves being ridden are gnarly, and the moves are huge. So when the sport does come on the radar screen to new viewers, it will blow them away. The level of body boarding in some places is so high right now in some places.
CM: We know you body surfed Teahupoo, was it asemotional for you as the people who witnessed it, or was it just another day with mother nature for Mike Stewart?
MS:It was a bet with my US distributor. I love taking his money(laughs). But really it was something that I really wanted to do. It turns out to be a good wave to body surf, maybe not for everybody, but it was fun. Intense, but fun. Honestly, it was a sideline activity.
If it was a focus, it would have been a different gig.
I did not go there with that intention, but the waves were right, and my head was right, so I went.
CM: How do stay in such great shape with such a busy schedule?
MS: I punch random fat people in the stomach, and strangle livestock to death with one hand. Sometimes I wrestle chimpanzees 3 at a time. Those little bastards are strong. Twice as strong as an average man. I'm stoked to be 6 times stronger than the average man (laughs).
CM: What other extreme athlete do you enjoy watching most?
MS: Honestly, I just watched Fuel channel for the first time this week. The skateboarding is pretty technical and advanced. It's hard to comprehend the
control they have. Ultimate fighting can be interesting when the mood is right. No particular athletes, but it's always cool to see somebody that is at the top of their sport.

CM: Do you follow College Basketball at all?
MS: If I wanted to see a group of sweaty men play with balls, I would go to Laguna (laughs).
CM: What video is in your DVD Player right now athome?
MS: Baby Einstein, but actually it's Baby Mozart which is an extension of the Baby Einstein series.
CM: We know you are SUPER busy since you could only be here a couple days, so thank you for the time Mike.
MS: Always happy to be here to support the cause. I am hoping to come back in June and have some more time to chill with everybody.
Thanks toeverybody out there for your support.
-MS

The grodzens did great on their mission to the World Beat Center in San Diego, CA. They took Zach Baz down for a RASTAFARI good time and
jammed to some PR Reggae beats. This is what Joe had to say,”The world beat center of San Diego was host to the best latin reggae show on
EARTH this past wednesday at the ultra roots venue (world beat center). The host of the sunday night “Reggae Mecosa” on 91X was there to MC. It was sold out for Puerto Rico's own CULTURA PROFETICA. Culturamade not one but three encore song's to the crowds delight with some songs title name's such as "bieke"and others. They also played a Bob Marley cover that was pure perfection! Their drummer Boris was sounding exactly like Bob and wowing the crowd with joy....ROOTS!!!....The venue, the show, and the crowd were IRIE...good times. It is hard to break into a very extensive reggae scene here in california, but Cultura Profetica seems to be on the minds of the true roots culture and on their way to world wide reconition.....Check them out if they play near you!” BIG UP...BOP BOP SHABA!!
